5 TV characters we’d love to have on our team
Fun stuff

Have you ever been on your couch after a long day of work, watching your favorite TV show and feeling, once again, so fondly for a character you know and love so much to the point that it almost feels as though they’re a legitimate character in your real life? No? Just us? Anyway…

Some characters are just so well-written, iconic, and memorable that we couldn’t help but explore what it would be like to work with them. Here are 5 of our favorites, read along to see if your number one made the list.

  1. Phoebe Buffay from Friends
  2. Phil Dunphy from Modern Family
  3. Barney Stinson from How I Met Your Mother
  4. Carrie Bradshaw from Sex And The City
  5. Michael Scott from The Office

1. Phoebe Buffay from Friends

Did you guess someone from Friends would make the list? Our pick was Phoebe and she earned her spot because, frankly, we doubt we’d ever have a boring day at the office if she was on our team.

Sweet-natured and eccentric Phoebe is a child at heart and would definitely be that colleague that helps us lighten up a little when things get stressful. Given her empathetic nature, we think she’d be a part of the HR team, or perhaps she’d put her masseuse experience to work as an Employee Wellbeing Specialist (not a conventional role, but we really think it should be).

If there’s any tension at the office, Phoebe would pull out her guitar, serenade us with her signature oddball lyrics, and keep us giggling non-stop. And whether we come out of it with a relaxed nervous system or belly laughs, it still does the trick.

2. Phil Dunphy from Modern Family

We’ve all come across an awkward colleague at least once in our career, and honestly, if we could choose who it’d be, we’d pick Phil Dunphy every time.

Phil is funny and goofy without really trying. However, his loyalty and dedication to his wife, kids, and career reveal just how pure his intentions are. This combo is what makes us love him!

With his background as a real estate agent, he would fit right into the Sales Department, and he’d be that guy who ironically keeps exceeding his target even though he’s almost always messing up. We don’t know if it would be from his dad jokes or his good nature, but we think he would be packing some of the highest numbers on the team.

3. Barney Stinson from How I Met Your Mother

Truly an icon. Just legen-...wait for it…-dary.

We have no doubt that every man in the office would envy Barney’s ability to arrive as a ball of high energy dressed in the classiest suit. HR would probably consider him a liability, and most of his targets would either be crushing on him or unable to stand him. There would be no in-between.

No one really knows what Barney does for a living, but we think he would be very successful in any role— perhaps even as CEO.

We would look to Barney to plan team-building activities for the whole office and we’d bet that 100% of the time, that activity would be laser tag. No complaints here!

4. Carrie Bradshaw from Sex And The City

Another best-dressed icon and trendsetter, Carrie would never show up to the office in the same outfit twice. She’d likely be the fun one that’s always slipping out to a nearby bar for happy hour after work, and she’d definitely be our go-to for the best restaurant recommendations.

As a columnist and writer, Carrie has been working from home long before it became a thing. If she joined our office though, we just know she’d be the Art Director leading the creative department.

Lunch breaks with Carrie would be the most entertaining, always with a bizarre story about her dating life.

5. Michael Scott from The Office

You probably knew Michael Scott would make it onto this list. Call us predictable, but we just couldn’t leave him out of this.

As a General Manager, we think he’d keep the role as a part of our team because we just can’t imagine him as anything else.

Michael really loved his employees and wore his heart on his sleeve... while he didn't exactly have the strongest business acumen or leadership skills, he was committed to making work fun. Sure, maybe he’d get on our nerves sometimes, really testing our patience, but he might also surprise us with situations that reveal just how much his heart is ultimately in the right place. For that, he might just be the world's best boss.

As he once said, “Would I rather be feared or loved? Easy. Both. I want people to be afraid of how much they love me.”

We’re done…for now.

Did you find your favorite on the list? Did you get as emotional as we did? No? Still just us? Anyway…
